Hon. Harold L. Volkmer |
Chairman, NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund; NRA Patron member and Director; serves on Legislative Policy Committee, Bylaws & Resolutions, and Hearings Committees. Served in the United States House of Representatives from the 9th District of Missouri, 1977 to 1997. Primary sponsor, along with then U.S. Senator Jim McClure of Idaho, for passage in 1986 of the Firearm Owners' Protection Act, commonly known as the McClure-Volkmer law. Volkmer consistently opposed gun control legislation such as the Brady Bill and socalled "Assault Weapons" bans; opposed legislation requiring the national registry of guns and gun owners and other legislation which violated individuals' Second Amendment rights. Volkmer is a former Assistant Attorney General of Missouri, former Prosecuting Attorney of Marion County, Missouri, and former member of the Missouri General Assembly. He is a hunter and believes in and upholds the individual's right to keep and bear arms. Harold L. Volkmer was re-elected to the NRA Board of Directors in 2001 for a 3 year term. |
