The NRA's 127th Annual Meetings & Exhibits took place in Philadelphia last weekend, and they were possibly the most successful in our proud history. With more than 41,000 attendees over the three-day event, and more exhibitors displaying their products than ever, we can certainly say that it was the largest event in our history.

The Annual Meeting of Members on Saturday, June 6, was highlighted by the reports to the members by your NRA Officers. In her moving presentation, NRA-ILA Executive Director Tanya K. Metaksa highlighted several legislative battles faced by your NRA-ILA, both in the past and future. Throughout her report, Mrs. Metaksa introduced members of the NRA family who exhibited fierce determination and courage during times of intense difficulty and personal danger.

These NRA Champions were: Kenneth & Mary Ellen Morning, who used a lawfully-carried concealed firearm to stop a violent criminal attack while on vacation; Sheriff Gary Edwards, accompanied by his wife Debbie, from Thurston County, Washington, who actively and publicly worked to help defeat Initiative 676 in Washington; Gene Case, a gardener in Tulsa, Oklahoma who rescued a little girl from her 6- foot, 7-inch criminal abductor through the use of a lawfully- carried concealed firearm; and the Ryker family from Eugene, Oregon, whose sons, Jacob and Joshua, helped to stop the violent attack of their peers by one of their fellow students. These heroes were met with overwhelming support from the members attending the meeting, as all rose to give repeated and extended standing ovations. Sadly, our NRA family lost Kenneth Morning earlier this year to cancer, but his dedication to our cause lives on in his wife, and in all whose lives he touched.

On Monday, June 8, NRA's Board of Directors elected the following Officers to lead your NRA: Charlton Heston - President; Kayne B. Robinson - 1st Vice President; Sandra S. Froman - 2nd Vice President; Wayne R. LaPierre, Jr. - Executive Vice President; Edward J. Land, Jr. - Secretary; Wilson H. Phillips, Jr - Treasurer. Mr. LaPierre subsequently reappointed Tanya K. Metaksa as the Executive Director of NRA-ILA, and Craig D. Sandler as Executive Director of NRA General Operations.

Thanks to all who attended, especially the countless NRA members who volunteered their time to help make this event so successful! And to those who could not make it this year, we hope to see you at future Meetings.
