February 24, 2008 NRA Board Elections
Joel Friedman is a "tough as nails" NRA Board Member that we need to re-elect in 2008
In the past 10 years, I have come to know NRA Board Member Joel Friedman very well.
I have come to know a total RKBA activist, a true leader borne from grassroots action.
Over 15 years ago, Joel was elected (by direct local member vote) as President of one of the first California NRA Members' Councils -
the NRA Members' Council of San Gabriel Valley.
And despite becoming a fantastically successful businessman and getting elected to the NRA Board since then,
he has maintained this Grassroots Leadership position, meeting once each month with
fellow volunteers in his area.
I've come to know an RKBA "attack dog" who is strongly in support of your right to own ugly black rifles.
This man doesn't shrink from a fight. He is an expert Parlimentarian and a consummate professional.
He represents NRA members well in his current seat on the Grassroots Development Committee and
other important roles. He is a dynamo of energy and seems to never stop.
Many dedicated NRA volunteers worked hard to elect Joel to NRA's board in 2005 - we definitely want him to stay there!
Please vote for Joel Friedman on your 2008 NRA Ballot and HELP KEEP OUR NRA STRONG.
January 22, 2008 How Quickly They Forget - Anti-Gun GOP Candidates
They want us to think they brought us to the party and forget who they've danced with in the past.
Not too many gun-owners seem suprised when informed of Rudy Guliani's anti-gun record...
"...Giuliani sued gun makers and distributors, backed a federal assault weapons ban and once described the NRA as extremist..."
http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/giuliani_ap_interview/2007/09/25/35598.html
It raises a few more eyebrows to learn that just a few years ago (2004), Mitt Romney signed an "Assault Weapons Ban" in Massachusetts...

But what does seem to surprise many, perhaps because of his reputation as a "War Hero", is how
Arizona Senator John McCain has been one of the
Second Amendment's most active enemies and worst threats.
For example, he was NRA's nemisis in 1999, pushing "Gun Show Loophole" (sic)
legislation that would have ended gun shows in America...

November 8, 2007 So-called "Pro-Gun Groups" Cause Microstamping and Lead Ammo Ban to Pass in California
It's all there, complete with denials
11/08/2007 - More on the preceeding story. Anyone that believes the "hate NRA, send us money instead" groups when they misrepresent NRA
as anything from incompetent to corrupt needs to follow these links. As so often happens, small "pro-gun" groups
that don't play well with others, this time the California Rifle & Pistol Ass'n (CRPA) and Gun Owners of California (GOC),
went off half-cocked, played their own independant games and caused two serious anti-gun bills to become law:
- AB1471/821 postmortem - GOC+CRPA screwed us
- Sam Parades of GOC responds to Bill Wiese's Accusations/Bill Responds
- Dr. Cavala and Bwiese Agree?
- Why I am no longer a CRPA member.
- NRA: Effectiveness & Unity: Maintaining our focus (revisited)
Of course, it was Governor Shwarzeneggar that signed 2 of the worst gun control bills to hit California in years and
no one wants to shield him from the consequences of his actions. But it's also important to recognize that, until
CRPA and GOC did what they did, the governor was expected to veto both (his staff was recommending vetoes).
It was CRPA and GOC that forced his hand, in the name of gun-owners, and caused him to strike out
against us.
I don't know if "incompetent" or "corrupt" applies - AT LEAST one surely does - but until they
acknowledge this mistake and decide to work with NRA to prevent future
ones, CRPA and GOC deserve no support from California gun-owners. We in the Golden State have enough problems without
loose cannons exploding in our faces.
October 30, 2007 Second-Tier "Pro-Gun" Groups Screw Up In California
Sham Groups cause TWO serious anti-gun bills to become law
10/30/2007 - It appears the "hate NRA, send us your money instead" groups have really screwed the pooch
in the Golden State. After several years of slow but steady NRA success, the 2 largest "second string wannabee" groups have acted to
destroy the work of thousands of dedicated NRA volunteers and brought about the worst gun control legislation to become law in California in years.
Through promotion of their own narrow self-interests, they politically forced Governor Shwarzeneggar's hand
into SIGNING TWO VERY BAD BILLS...
LEAD AMMO BAN
AND...
MICROSTAMPING
...bills that NRA had been ferociously opposing all year. Once again, California gun-owners have become the victim of
financial opportunists that wreak legislative terrorism on their members (and non-members) as they
work against the efforts of NRA and the state's many volunteers to serve the interests of those who are not gun-owners.
In California, the "hate NRA send us your money instead" scam typically perpetrated by the smaller gun groups may be coming to an end!
Read how Californians are becoming ever-more aware of these divisive tactics
and are threatening to abandon these 2 groups in favor of the only solid Second Amendment force in the state at:
CALGUNS.NET: AB1471/821 postmortem - GOC+CRPA screwed us
Why, if that would happen, California gun owners might present a united voice to the media, legislature and governor.
The back-room, back-stabbing deals at cross-purposes to gun-rights might actually stop. We
can't have that, now, can we?
New video for California's NRA Members' Councils
He said it. It's right there. He can't deny it.
9/10/2007 - Have donated a new video to the all-volunteer
NRA Members' Councils
of California (currently on their homepage at calnra.com)
titled...
What would
PLEASE Senator Jack Scott?
This short video highlights vehemently anti-gun California State Senator Jack Scott,
but the issue is relevant for any state that hasn't yet passed NRA's "Never Again" legislation.
This important law protects gun-owners against confiscation during times of declared emergencies.
In California this year, we hope to pass AB 1645
into law, so that California gun-owners will never have to suffer
the blatant civil rights abuses, not to mention
immoral and outrageous conduct, foisted on gun-owners in the New Orleans area.
At the time of this writing, the bill has cleared the legislature and sits on Governor Schwarzeneggar's desk.
Even for gun-owners in states that have passed such law, the video serves as a strong reminder of how far
astray government can go, even in this country. NRA had to go to federal court twice
and have two separate orders issued to New Orleans before they stopped confiscating guns and returned
those held to their rightful owners.
But without so much as a scrap of paper for a receipt for many of the guns illegally siezed
(some were even destroyed by the police right in front of the owner), many firearms
would never be recovered.
The widespread confiscation of firearms in New Orleans stands as a dark stain on that
American city's proud heritage. But this part of Katrina's history continues to be largely ignored
by media, some of whom have claimed that no guns were confiscated in the crisis.
BTW, many thanks to Joel Friedman for
his advice and help in the production of this piece. (BTW, Joel is up for re-election to NRA board this time.
First president of the first California Members' Council,
started almost 20 years ago, and still is today - you can't get any more grassroots than that.)
