While the Clinton-Gore Administration furthers its attacks
on NRA and law-abiding gun owners, an editorial in the
August 13 Wall Street Journal exposed an egregious example
of hypocrisy by Clinton. Against the advice of the Justice
Department, the FBI, and the U.S. Attorney's Office, Clinton
recently pardoned 16 Puerto Rican terrorists. This hardly
seems like the action of someone who claims to be concerned
with violent crime. |
Deputy White House Chief of Staff Maria
Echavez attempted to excuse the President's actions by
claiming those offered clemency "never killed anyone."
However, the editorial goes on to point out that the
terrorist group to which these 16 individuals belonged was
involved in more than 100 terrorist attacks on U.S.
facilities, resulting in the death of many innocent
individuals. Additionally, one of the pardoned terrorists
was involved in the 1983 armed robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank
in Hartford, Conn., netting $7.5 million for the terrorist
organization. |

"Even if these 16 terrorists didn't murder
anyone directly, they were part of a conspiracy to kill, a
conspiracy that was to be extended by the funds stolen from
the bank in Connecticut," the editorial states.
But why
would Clinton pardon murderous terrorists? The only theory
the Journal offered was that it was an attempt to influence
Puerto Rican voters in New York to support Hillary Clinton's
run for U.S. Senate in 2000.
