Charlton Heston, October 4, 1924 - April 5, 2008

     Honorary Life member (the NRA's highest honor) and former President. Academy Award winning actor who has volunteered time and talent to represent gun owners in the national arena. Millions knew Heston as one of America's most impassioned, authoritative advocates of Second Amendment freedom. Featured in scores of television, radio and print commercials for the NRA and NRA/ILA. Active in legislative and membership efforts from coast-to-coast. Traveled across the U.S. in support of pro-gun candidates. Frequent guest on national television programs like NBC's "Meet the Press:" Gun rights columnist Guns & Ammo, Out-of-Doors, Buckmasters, Full Cry, Midwest Outdoors, Gun World, Outdoors, and others. Hosted the Charlton Heston Celebrity Shoot to showcase safety and satisfaction of shooting sports and raise funds for defense of the Second Amendment. Grew up hunting, shooting and fishing in the north woods of Michigan. Gun collector.

Charlton Heston was re-elected to a 3-year position on the NRA Board of Directors in 2001. In 2003, at the completion of an unprecedented 2-1/2 terms (5-1/2 years) as President of NRA, Mr. Heston was elected for a lifetime position to the NRA Executive Council as he turned the gavel over to Kayne Robinson.

On April 5, 2008, Mr. Heston passed away at 84.
