In a June 9 advertisement in USA Today, Handgun Control, Inc., called for a number of infringements on our right to keep and bear arms. That, in and of itself, is not surprising, but the content of their ad was rather interesting. We reported in the past that the individual suspected of supplying one of the firearms to one of the deranged killers of Columbine High is the son of a proud member of HCI (FAX Alert, Vol. 6, No. 17). This recent ad by HCI should be noted for the fact that among the list of individuals who claim to support the HCI gun-ban agenda are a number of celebrities who make their living through the glorification of violence, including firearm-related violence, in movies, print, and/or song. The most intriguing member of this list, however, is none other than Spike Lee, the controversial director who was recently quoted as suggesting that NRA President Charlton Heston should be murdered with a firearm (FAX Alert, Vol. 6, No. 21). The ad opens saying, "We are not gun haters'," but judging from the inclusion on their list of supporters of Spike Lee and Rosie O'Donnell, who once implied that gun owners should all be put in jail, it would seem that the opening should have continued by saying, "but we do hate gun owners."
