If there was ever any doubt about the true agenda of gun control supporters in Maryland, Attorney General J. Joseph Curran (D) settled the matter this week when he proposed a far-reaching package of regulations on firearms, then added, "Our public policy goal must be to rid our communities of handguns." Whether it is gun rationing schemes, gun owner registration, or lawsuits against firearm manufacturers, Curran's proposals have confirmed what NRA has always said -- those who would restrict the right of law-abiding citizens to own and use firearms for lawful purposes have the ultimate goal of banning lawful gun ownership. According to today's Montgomery Journal, Maryland Governor Parris Glendening (D), who has put passing more gun control laws high on his upcoming agenda, has called Curran's ban proposal "unrealistic and unpassable." Of course, Curran's proposals and stated goal could simply be used to make Glendening's efforts look less onerous. Gun owners in Maryland and across the country should consider both officials to be reading from the same play book.
