PRO-GUN BILLS NEED COSPONSORS
|
The pro-Second Amendment agenda has begun to take shape on
Capitol Hill with the introduction of two key bills in both the
House and the Senate.
|
The first order of business is ending the
onslaught of reckless litigation aimed at the firearms industry.
H.R. 1032, introduced by NRA Board member Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.),
has already gained 48 cosponsors; the bill would enact into law
the common sense principle that firearms or ammunition
manufacturers and dealers couldn't be sued over the criminal or
unlawful misuse of their product.

Rep. Barr's fellow NRA
Director, Sen. Larry Craig (R-Id.), plans to introduce a
companion bill right after the Easter recess.

In the Senate,
Sen. Bob Smith (R-N.H.) has introduced S. 597, which would
permanently enact the provisions of last year's Smith amendment
to the Justice Department Appropriations bill -- which forbids
the imposition of a gun tax on law-abiding citizens who go
through the National Instant Check System (NICS), and also
prohibits the FBI from keeping records on honest gun buyers.

|
Rep. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) has introduced an identical bill, H.R.
1178, in the House.
