HOUSE VOTES AGAINST FIRST AMENDMENT

      : Earlier this week, the House of Representatives passed so-called campaign finance "reform" legislation in the form of the ill-conceived Shays-Meehan bill.

      This legislation, which the House also passed last year but the Senate wisely kept from the desk of Bill Clinton, poses a serious threat to our right to free speech, as its language is so broad that it could greatly restrict NRA's ability to communicate with its members regarding the views on the Second Amendment of candidates seeking elected office (see FAX Alert Vol. 6, No. 35 for more details).

      Call your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to oppose H.R. 417, the Shays-Meehan campaign finance reform bill.
