General Foss passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2003.
One of the Second Amendment's most effective gun control opponents, General Joe Foss was an uncompromising supporter of the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. Former host of ABC's "American Sportsman" and star of TV series, "The Outdoorsman-Joe Foss." Former legislator and two-term Governor, South Dakota. Former commissioner, the American Football League. WWII U.S. Marine fighter pilot, awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Formed South Dakota Air National Guard, called to active duty for Korean War with U.S. Air Force. General Foss was an NRA Life member for over 40 years and served on the NRA Board and Executive Council. Past NRA President. Appeared before groups across the U.S.A, on TV and radio talk shows. A true hero who consistently stood tall for causes he believed in, General Foss was active with Campus Crusade for Christ, International, American Patriot Fund (inner city), Law Enforcement Ministry and the Friends of NRA. Gen. Foss was re-elected to the NRA Board of Directors in 2000. |
