A handful of states hosted elections on Tuesday, and the results for
gun owners were impressive, as NRA-PVF-endorsed candidates won nearly
90% of their elections.
-
In Virginia, history was made as the
Republicans took control of both houses of the General Assembly. In
the Virginia contests, no Republican incumbent, challenger, or open
seat candidate, who was targeted for his pro-Second Amendment stance
or for being "soft" on gun control, lost.
-
In New Jersey,
NRA-PVF-endorsed candidates won 42 out of 44 Assembly races (95%).
-
In Kentucky, pro-gun Governor Paul Patton (D) was re-elected with 61% of
the vote, joining NRA-PVF-endorsed Governor Mike Foster (R-La.), who
was overwhelmingly re-elected earlier this month, as the second
pro-gun Governor re-elected on Election Day ‘99.
-
As we go to press
with this FAX Alert, it appears as if Lt. Governor Ronnie Musgrove (D)
will be elected Governor of Mississippi, although this election may
have to be officially settled by the Democrat-controlled State House.
Both Musgrove and his Republican opponent, Rep. Mike Parker, are
pro-gun.
-
NRA-PVF also succeeded in electing candidates to office in
special elections in Washington State and Florida.
The message from
Tuesday's elections was clear -- crime control, not gun control -- was
favored by the voters. NRA members were actively involved in many of
these elections, and should be heartened with these results as we
continue to mobilize our grassroots base in preparation for the 2000
elections.
