U.S. Supreme Court Rejects
Petition to Review Navegar v. U.S.
As is normal procedure at the beginning of a new session, the U.
S. Supreme Court issued a list of cases it has rejected for
review this term. Among the thousand-plus cases rejected was
Navegar v. US (No.99-1874).
The case involved a series of
unsuccessful challenges to the 1994 Clinton-Gore so-called
"assault weapon" ban brought by several manufacturers and
importers that were consolidated in this appeal. The issues had
to do with the limits of the ability of Congress to regulate
commerce rather than a direct Second Amendment challenge.
