But the family's gun was "safely" hidden from 13 year-old Anna.
"She probably wouldn't even have been hurt. She probably would have had just a couple scars like I did."
Anna grew up around guns and knows how to use them responsibly.

"When he was backing Ashley across that hallway, if in her closet there had been
a gun laying on that shelf, loaded, for Anna to use, she says 'Dad, without a doubt,
I could have walked up, shot him in the back of the head, and Ashley would have
never been touched'..."

Police eventually used their firearms to kill the intruder. Gun control advocates didn't want
to appear on camera, but said this case does not disprove the case for
tighter gun access laws.

Still, this grieving family are holding each other a little tighter...
