Gov. Bush Receives Endorsement
Of Nation's Largest Police Group

"...Governor Bush will be a President who will do what he says and will do right by the cop on the beat..."
-- FOP National President Gilbert Gallegos

On September 8, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the nation's largest law enforcement organization, announced that it has endorsed Texas Governor George W. Bush (R) for President of the United States.

FOP National President Gilbert Gallegos said, "The FOP believes that Governor Bush will be a President who will do what he says and will do right by the cop on the beat. [He shares FOP's] values and shares an unyielding commitment to supporting law enforcement with action and not just words. I believe that George W. Bush is a man who has demonstrated integrity, sincerity, and a genuine commitment to the rule of law."

The announcement mentioned several FOP-supported anti-crime programs and policies implemented by Bush since he was elected Governor of Texas, including the NRA-supported "Project Exile" prosecution model, which Bush implemented statewide under the name Texas Exile. Programs like Texas Exile, which call for the aggressive prosecution of violent felons caught with firearms, have been credited with helping to lower overall crime in Texas by 14%, violent crime by 20%, and violent juvenile crime by 44%.
