The pro-gun community has grown somewhat accustomed to the venom that spews from talk-show host Rosie O'Donnell on a regular basis. Within the last two years, she has
According to a May 25 AP article, Rosie has asked for permission to allow a bodyguard to accompany her and her adopted son to kindergarten in the fall. While she claims the bodyguard will not carry a firearm on the trips to school, he has applied for a permit to carry a concealed firearm, and the article states that O'Donnell can accept the guard being armed at times. O'Donnell said, "I don't personally own a gun, but if you are qualified, licensed and registered, I have no problem." Does this mean that Rosie will now join NRA and help us lobby to pass Right To Carry laws? There are currently 29 states where there is either no system allowing for law-abiding citizens to obtain a permit to carry a firearm for personal protection, or if there is a system, it allows for arbitrary rejection of permit applicants. We won't hold our breath waiting for the announcement that Rosie is encouraging Al Gore, HCI, and her other anti-gun friends to drop their opposition to Right To Carry. Nor will we expect her to admit that she is simply a hypocrite, and only supports the privilege of the wealthy to be able to hire government-approved armed guards while opposing the right of less-fortunate law-abiding citizens to be able to provide for their own protection against violent, predatory criminals.
