Former NRA President
Answers Baseless Charges

"...[W]hen a child is beaten to death by an abusive parent, Bill Clinton is no where to be found. He only seems to bring out the Presidential podium... if a child is involved in a gun tragedy..."

My Dear Sir:

You should be ashamed! Your blatant attack on the NRA is not born of knowledge but of ignorance and politics. It is immoral, sir, for you to use your position to attack 3.5 million men and women of all faiths, in a shameless attempt to defend a President with despicable morals.

     Look at the facts, Sir:

When the six-year-old little boy in Michigan took a gun to school and shot a six-year-old classmate, President Clinton planted his Presidential podium on the still warm grave of that innocent child and railed against NRA and guns for political exploitation.

Clinton attacked and blamed NRA for the tragedy claiming a trigger lock law would have prevented the tragedy and NRA had blocked a trigger lock law -- an absurd claim and a self-serving attack on the NRA. Clearly, that tragedy would not have been prevented by a trigger lock law.

Reports revealed that the six-year-old boy has a record of violence; that his father is in prison; and his mother, having been evicted, had dumped the boy off to live with an uncle in a crack house. The gun the boy used belonged to the uncle and was stolen. It is ludicrous to suggest that a trigger lock law would have made the uncle put a trigger lock on a stolen gun that he kept hidden in the crack house.

Responding to Clinton's attack on NRA, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre accused President Clinton of attempting to capitalize on gun tragedies to further his political agenda. He said he believed Clinton needed a certain level of violence and was willing to accept a certain level of killing to promote his political agenda. LaPierre is right. Look at the facts:

When a child dies from drowning, or if a child is killed by a drunk driver, or when a child is beaten to death by an abusive parent, Bill Clinton is no where to be found. He only seems to bring out the Presidential podium for a press conference or to "look into the eyes" of grieving parents if a child is involved in a gun tragedy. If that isn't exploiting gun tragedy for his own political agenda, what is it?

LaPierre's claim that Clinton's failure to enforce federal gun laws is responsible for continuing crime and gun deaths is accurate.

When a criminal attempts to buy a gun, which under federal law he is prohibited from possessing, he commits a federal felony. The Clinton administration's failure to enforce the law results in known criminals, who have committed another crime, walking out the door to get a gun somewhere else, to commit violent crimes.

Just as surely as God made little green apples, Bill Clinton is willing to accept the resulting violence and killings that result from that lack of enforcement or he would have done something to mandate enforcement of existing gun laws.

You sir, owe Wayne LaPierre and the NRA an apology.

Sincerely,

Marion P. Hammer
