CLINTON CAMPAIGN OF DECEIT CONTINUES
WITH MEDIA SUPPORT

"...the message NRA is receiving from members and
non-members alike is clear -- Don't back down!"

Wayne LaPierre on "This Week"

The "war of words" between NRA and the Clinton-Gore Administration continues, and while the White House receives cover from the "mainstream media" as Clinton pushes his assault on NRA and law-abiding gun owners, the message NRA is receiving from members and non-members alike is clear -- Don't back down!

On Tuesday we sent a Special FAX Alert outlining what had transpired thus far,

  • including the fact that Bill Clinton fired the first shot on March 2 on NBC's "Today," when he implied that at least 3.2 million Americans (NRA's then membership) are opposed to making America safer.

  • When NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre responded to this outrageous slur the next day, as did this FAX Alert (see Vol. 7, No. 9), the media remained silent.

  • NRA then turned up the heat on Clinton when it began running a series of ads featuring NRA President Charlton Heston pointing out the failures of the Clinton-Gore Administration to prosecute armed criminals, and questioning the veracity of Bill Clinton when it comes to his statements on gun issues.
"...NRA did not create today's atmosphere where individuals and organizations regularly question whether or not Clinton is telling the truth..."
Obviously, NRA did not create today's atmosphere where individuals and organizations regularly question whether or not Clinton is telling the truth, as this is the same President who was impeached by the House of Representatives and held in contempt by a federal judge over that very issue. But the White House, with the media not questioning its "spin," seems to have suddenly been offended by our ads, and by Wayne LaPierre's comment on the March 12 edition of ABC's "This Week" where he mentioned the anti-gunners' use of tragic shootings to further promote their anti-gun political agenda. The fact remains, however, that time and again, when a high-profile criminal act or tragedy involving guns has occurred, this Administration's response has been to immediately exploit the tragedy to call for new "gun control" laws.

Clinton continues with his tactic of using disinformation and tragedy to further his anti-gun agenda. This week he held a rally to promote the passage of a non-binding, purely symbolic resolution to instruct the House-Senate conference committee to meet to discuss the juvenile justice bill. Clinton once again used the specter of dead children to promote his agenda, and continued with his mysterious claim that prosecution of federal gun crimes has increased during his two terms. Of course, he has not yet substantiated this claim, and the fact remains that Syracuse University's analysis of Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) data shows a 44% decrease in BATF-referred federal firearms prosecutions through 1998 -- a fact the Clinton-friendly media largely ignore.

Clinton also touted his Justice Department's internal review claiming the National Instant Check System (NICS) is operating as it should. This flies in the face of the independent General Accounting Office's (GAO) report, released last week and reported in last week's FAX Alert, exposing serious problems with NICS. Of course, the GAO report remains largely ignored by the press.

...[Sarah Brady] actually encourages her supporters to "tell them (NRA) to 'Go to Hell'"...

And while the Clinton-Gore team continues to feign outrage over the tone of some of NRA's messages, Clinton's rally included the likes of HCI Chair Sarah Brady, whom he specifically thanked for her efforts to promote gun control. Sarah Brady, of course, is know for her inflammatory fund raisers that try to blame NRA and law-abiding gun owners for the acts of criminals, and she actually encourages her supporters to "tell them (NRA) to 'Go to Hell.'" The Clinton-Gore Administration has a long and undeniable history of ignoring the truth when it comes to promoting its political agenda, and it seems to accept the likes of Sarah Brady and HCI sacrificing civility if it helps the Administration's game plan.

It is critical that you contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and both U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121, and let them know that you support Mr. LaPierre's and Mr. Heston's questioning of the Administration's policy of letting hundreds of thousands of criminals off without even a slap on the wrist, and that you support NRA's call for full enforcement of existing laws against violent criminals and drug dealers. You may also want to call the White House at (202) 456-1414 and MB>ask when the Clinton-Gore Administration will start enforcing existing laws, and when it will apologize for politicizing tragedy and blaming NRA and law-abiding gun owners for violent crime.

Make no mistake, this issue isn't going to go away. The media and anti-gun Members of Congress are going to politicize this even further, and that's why lawmakers need to hear from constituents such as you about your support for our efforts. Please call today, and encourage others to do the same.
