MORE MEDIA MISREPRESENTATION

The so-called "mainstream media" is often accused of misrepresenting issues relating to firearms and NRA, and for good reason. Now, however, media types are also misrepresenting themselves.

Several weeks ago, a television production company based in New York City called NRA with a request to do an interview that they claimed was for British television -- a request that was granted. This Thur., 2/10, while NRA Spokesman Bill Powers was concluding what had been, up until that time, a fairly straightforward interview, an individual in a giant purple gun costume showed up and started causing a scene. When the costumed individual and interview crew followed Mr. Powers into NRA Headquarters, they were politely asked to leave, refused, and had to be escorted off NRA property by the police.

The same crew apparently tried the same stunt at the office of U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) later that day. Unfortunately, the actions of this particular "news" crew may result in NRA having to be more discriminating when presented with requests for interviews in the future.
