CLINTON & HUD CONTINUE TO DEFLECT BLAME

Mr. LaPierre meets members at
the CRPA Banquet, Feb. 19

On Wednesday, Feb. 16, Bill Clinton released a report conducted by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that claimed that public housing residents were more likely to be victims of firearm-related violent crime than other Americans. This, however, is no real revelation, as economically disadvantaged people are two to three times more likely to be victims of all violent crimes than are affluent Americans.

The report was clearly intended to justify Clinton's and HUD's threat of promoting taxpayer-subsidized lawsuits against legitimate, lawful firearms manufacturers. In response, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre blamed the Clinton-Gore Administration for its failure to enforce existing laws. He stated, "For gun criminals and drug dealers, housing projects have become casinos. By not picking up drug dealers with guns, the administration is sentencing those people to a death sentence."

LaPierre also announced the release of a video that tells the truth about the unfortunate circumstances in which public housing residents live. "The story about the problems plaguing public housing residents must be told," NRA's EVP commented. "And it's time that the President stopped playing politics with people who live in these unfortunate circumstances. It is time to get criminals with guns and drug dealers with guns out of America's public housing. It is time to enforce the law."

NRA's video report will air on NRA's television news magazine show, as well as on NRA's interactive website -- www.nralive.com.
