On December 29, 1999, the NRA "Round-Up" Program at MidwayUSA reached the $2,000,000 mark -- all donations contributed by loyal MidwayUSA customers in support of the programs of the NRA. The NRA "Round-Up" program began in 1992, when Larry and Brenda Potterfield, owners of MidwayUSA, developed a plan to allow every MidwayUSA customer ordering from the MidwayUSA catalog or website the opportunity to "round-up" the total of his purchase to the next highest dollar. This amount is donated to the NRA and put into the Endowment for the Protection of the Second Amendment. Kirby Knox, of Gonzales, Tex., became the first contributor, with a donation of 70 cents on January 2, 1992. In 1993, NRA President Bob Corbin presented MidwayUSA with the NRA's Professional Public Service Award in recognition of the Round-Up's success. On December 29, 1999, D. C. Lane of Colorado pushed donations past the $2,000,000 mark with his donation of $1.05. In recognition of this achievement, NRA EVP Wayne LaPierre and NRA-ILA Executive Director James Jay Baker presented the Distinguished Service Award to the Potterfields and the "Customers of MidwayUSA" at NRA's Winter Board of Directors Meeting in Las Vegas, Nev. The award was presented on January 16. =+=+=+=+This information is provided as a service of the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, Fairfax, VA.
